Sailfish OS is an independent mobile operating system offering a credible alternative to the dominant “big players.” As an open and autonomous platform, it provides a meaningful counterbalance to the mainstream ecosystem. In a market largely polarised between iOS and Android, Sailfish represents the potential for greater diversity, innovation, and technological progress.
The brief was to sharpen and refine Sailfish’s visual identity to improve its on-screen performance—particularly on mobile devices—and ensure clarity and recognisability at smaller sizes.
The resulting identity is built around a simplified synthesis of a sailfish silhouette and the letter “S”. The mark captures the defining spirit of the sailfish through a confident, angular form that suggests forward motion and upward momentum—symbolising independence, agility, and progress.
